DIANE SHAHEEN TITLE: Church Administrator RESPONSIBILITIES: Upkeep of church database, calendaring events held at the church, schedule maintenance for the building, and of course, greeting visitors and congregants. I work closely with this wonderful staff and work actively with several committees. I am the primary contact for congregants, staff and guests. JOINED UUCMP: September 4, 2001 WHY UUCMP: A friend was interested in this position when it was listed, she called me to say this job was more suited to me. My friend was right! RESIDENCE: Salinas PERSONAL: I was born and raised in San Jose and then moved to the Monterey Peninsula to start a business in Marina. I have a close-knit family consisting of two daughters, Coreen and Lesley, and five grandchildren. I love photography, cooking for small dinner parties, and enjoying the company of friends – a great many of them UUs. TITLE: Sexton RESPONSIBILITIES: Cleaning common areas of the church, recycling, light maintenance, security, set-up for services and meetings as scheduled by administrator, insuring that the church is locked and secure, preparing coffee for Sunday services and helping in whatever way I am needed. All requests for set up or clean up should be handled through the church administrator, Diane Shaheen. JOINED UUCMP: April 2008 WHY UUCMP: I really wanted to return to the Monterey area. I was already a sexton for an Episcopal church and had worked for the UU Fellowship in Reno. I felt this would be a great place for me to live and work. The people I met here and/or spoke with by phone during the negotiations and interview, beginning with Rev. Greg Ward were all friendly and efficient. I liked that. JOB: Former sexton for Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno, Nevada. I have also taught computer office skills, coordinated a network of volunteers, managed two local stores for fast food chains in Tennessee (Domino's Pizza, Church's Chicken) and done a number of other interesting things. RESIDENCE: Here at UUCMP in your wonderful sexton's quarters. PERSONAL: My live-in companion, Moses the cat, likes it here as much as I do. I am glad and thankful to be back in the Monterey area and look forward to becoming more involved here over time. |
