Acceptance of One Another  and Encouragement to Spiritual Growth
Rev. Dennis Hamilton and Katie Hamilton

As we continue our journey with the seven principles, we examine the third principle, affirming and promoting acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations. Acceptance of EVERYONE? REALLY? And as for democracy, is it really the worst form of government....except for all the rest? We shall see. Join us as we welcome Dennis Hamilton, our former interim minister, to lead us in this exploration.

Sunday Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Single services until September.

New Book Discussion - Beginning August 22

2nd and 4th Tuesdays, at 7:00 p.m.

Beginning on Tuesday, August 22nd, Rev. Axel will be leading a four-session discussion of Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal, by Aviva Chomsky. This book has been widely studied in UU circles, and was selected by our congregation's Immigration Justice Team. It is part of our effort to "educate ourselves and the congregation about the issues, build cross-cultural awareness, [and] assess the logistics of becoming a sanctuary congregation..."

Here is a description of the book: "In this illuminating work, immigrant rights activist Aviva Chomksy shows how "illegality" and "undocumentedness" are concepts that were created to exclude and exploit. with a focus on US policy, she probes how people, especially Mexican and Central Americans, have been assigned this status-and to what ends. Blending history with human drama, Chomsky explores what it means to be undocumented in a legal, social, economic, and historical context. The result is a powerful testament of the complex, contradictory, and ever-shifting nature of status in America."

Please purchase (or borrow) a copy of the book, and read the Introduction and Chapters One and Two in preparation for our first session on August 22nd, at 7:00 p.m.. Please contact Rev. Axel (minister@uucmp.org) if you have questions, or plan to attend.
