How We Work

The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Monterey Peninsula is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations. Each member congregation of the UUA is self-governing, with its members serving as the authority for the operation of the church.

Our church is managed by a Board of Trustees, which is comprised of nine members elected by the congregation. The Board’s function is to develop policies and monitor their implementation. These policies are executed by a group of operating committees comprised of volunteers from the congregation and, in some cases, supported by church staff. The Board administers church functions based on ByLaws approved by the membership.

The Program Council is composed of the chairs of the standing committees; it helps implement the vision and goals of the church and communicate them to the congregation at large.  The Program Council works to promote effective interdependent and collaborative leadership in assuring the delivery of church programs and services, under authority of the Board of Trustees.

A variety of Committee and Teams enact the vision and activities of the congregation. These include:

    • Finance Committee
    • Music Committee
    • Adult Life Enrichment Committee
    • Worship Associates
    • Family Ministry Committee
    • Communications and Technology Team
    • Facilities Committee
    • Membership Committee
    • Building the Beloved Community Transformation Task Force
    • Social Justice Committee
    • Endowment Committee
    • Stewardship Committee
